This is basically a follow up to a previous post, which you can read here.
Hope.
That’s what Supergirl represents, in the most basic of terms. The ability to hope, and to know that everything can go right. That’s what the show does, it extends hope to the audience.
I’m writing about this again because it appears that most are in need of hope. The seems to be a growing trend of hatred, and even powerlessness around social media; and the world. So much so that within the fandoms (of multiple) TV shows there has grown a division. Segmented groups of supposed fans that talk among themselves and hate against anyone that doesn’t agree with their opinions–and that’s all they are. Their opinions.
Supergirl, from what I see, gets a lot of this hate. Mostly to rousing choruses of, this sucks, or the show should end, or why are they using that character.
Why bring that much negativity to something that’s made for entertainment?
Be like Supergirl.
Be positive.
Be uplifting.
Be excited.
If you really don’t like the show, fine. But why are you still watching? Is it that little inkling of hope that you hold onto? Why hate on something, and spread that hate? The world doesn’t need that. The world needs hope, and spirit.. and so do fans. All fans, every fan.
No matter what you’re a fan of, whether it’s Supergirl, or Arrow, or OUAT, or any one of the shows that are gracing our screens currently. Keep the hope.
Even just as short as 5 years ago, the word fandom meant caring, and family. Not of blood, but of camaraderie and the knowledge that you can share a love of something together. It made people stronger. It forged bonds. Supergirl shows that in it’s style, in it’s writing, in it’s message. Care for each other. Look after each other. Because in the end, we only have each other.
The one amazing thing about fandoms are that you’re never truly alone. You may feel like it sometimes, but there’s a whole world of people around you.
Treat everyone with respect. If you don’t like something about the show or thing that you love, don’t spit your opinion at someone. Tell them why, but do it in a discussion and listen. Don’t attack people for your beliefs.
All of that goes for the cast and crew of the shows that you love. Share your artwork, and your love of the characters, and your enthusiasm with the creators, and actors, and crew, but don’t continually spam them with tweets or messages until they respond to you. That’s not fair to them. Do you want an honest response? Or do you want something replied to out of guilt?
Remember all these people are people too. They have feelings and lives. But also remember your fellow fans. Be kind to them. After all, they you never know the kinds of friends you will meet out of the same love of something.
So, leave the hatred at home. Be positive. Be happy, and Be like Supergirl.
I will leave it at that, which probably isn’t as clean as my other posts, but I haven’t blogged in a while. Still. I hope you enjoy and got something out of it if you’re reading this.
Remember, take care of one another because if we don’t, who will?
